I was a little shocked at 1408 as I was expecting a much scarier movie, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a good movie. More of a suspense movie then horror or scary. I thought both John Cusack and Sam Jackson were good in there roles. Another movie to give you a chill without freaking you out.
Daywatch is the sequel to the highly stylized Russian film Nightwatch, which is called the Russian version of The Matrix. Lots of special effects and a pretty interesting story. Sadly though Daywatch stumbles from a fairly boring and drawn out story and a long run time. It is worth checking out, but not nearly as exciting as Nightwatch.
Decided to rent lots of animated movies and was very happy with Meet the Robinsons. It is a very cute movie. You could tell the story was cobbled together and hearing some of the rumors of John Lasseter involvement late in the project and it appeared to pay off. Meet the Robinsons is well worth checking out.
Yeah!! I watched Nancy Drew! It actually was a very cute movie. If you have a lady or kids, it is worth watching. Prince is on the freaking soundtrack too!
National Treasure is like a dirty little secret for most people, and the second movie really isn't any different. It won't win awards, but it is a fun film, that you can just eat popcorn and have a good time watching.
I am a huge fan of the Coen Brothers and will watch anything they do. I was really excited about No Country for Old Men, but the movie left me with more questions then answers. It is a great story with awesome character development, but some people may not feel satisfied with the whole film.
Planet Terror was an alright zombie gore flick. The story went all over the place, but I think that is what Robert Rodriguez was going after. Sadly some parts just turn from silly to stupid.
I finally got to check out Ratatouille and I was happy I did. It is a great movie and probably one of Pixar's best films. It is enjoyable by all those that watch it, but doesn't feel like a kids movie in the slightest.
Rise: Blood Hunter could have been a pretty good movie. Sadly the director decided to do some crazy timeline shifting by doing flashbacks, flashforwards, and mixing present with little context, which totally ruined the flow of the story. Lucy Lu was pretty good, but Michael Chiklis seemed out of place as a lost cop.
I decided to check out Superbad and it really was pretty damn funny. Not really the type of movie you want to watch with mixed company, but still pretty damn funny.
The Black Dahlia is probably one of the most disappointing movies I have seen. I personally love James Ellroy novels based in this setting, including L.A. Confidential and White Jazz. The Black Dahlia just turns into a mess about halfway through the film. You hardly care about any of the characters, and Josh Hartnett is just flat in his role.
I got the The Bourne Ultimatum for Christmas this year, and it was a pretty good action movie. Some of the action sequences were the best ever put on film, but overall I got somewhat bored during the movie. Worth checking out if you are a big fan of the series.
I really enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth, so I decided to check out other movies by Guillermo del Toro and I was extremely pleased with the well crafted ghost story of The Devil's Backbone. The pacing was right on the money and you learn to really like the characters and you feel for them throughout the movie. Well worth checking out if you like a spooky story without going overboard.
I rented The Messengers for Halloween and what a lame ass movie. The trailers make you expect a movie similar to The Ring or something along those lines, but this just bored me to tears. The twist at the end is pretty uneventful and probably predictable by most who watch the movie.
