Crystal Castles @ The Showbox at The Market

So I went and checked out Metric tonight (more on that later), but this Canadian band Crystal Castles penned for them and was pretty cool to see live. Crystal Castle has two members, Ethan Fawn and Alice, as well as a touring drummer. Their sound can only be described as 8-bit riot dance, or if you took various sounds from classic Nintendo Entertainment System games, and threw them up with a Casio keyboard. It doesn’t sound very pleasant but it is pretty awesome once you hear it. Alice was dancing all around the stage while Ethan was stuck behind his various array of keyboards and synths. They have a full length album coming out in February 2008, but here is a sample of their work. Listen to more on their MySpace page.

VietNam photos from Croc

So the other opening band for the Lemonheads was VietNam, who before last night I have never heard of and wasn’t sure how they would sound, but their set was a very pleasant surprise. Somewhat folky rock with a slice of the 70′s in there for some flavor. Along with the sound was some great voice work that you really wouldn’t expect from the singers in the band. Very surprising. I snapped a couple shots, so take a peak. Sadly VietNam does not currently have an album out, so they had only t-shirts to sell. So in the meantime check their myspace to hear a couple of their songs from their album coming out in January.

Evan Dando freaks out, walks off stage

So last night The Lemonheads played the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle. The Lemonheads played a really good show and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, accept for this guy and his girl but I’ll talk about that in another post, and Evan Dando closed his normal set with some acoustic songs, took a short break and returned to the stage with the entire band and was ready to start playing another song and then just lifted his guitar and walked off stage. No one could really figure out what set Evan off, and the crowd started to get pretty pissed. After a couple minutes of boos and some foul language aimed at Evan the house lights turned on and security started asking people to clear out. It was pretty funny to witness. But I did snap some photos, take a peak.

Band of Horses at the Showbox

I got to check out Band or Horses over the weekend at The Showbox.  It was a wonderful show.  I was really impressed how much better their show has gotten since I saw them at the Block Party during the summer.  They played all the great songs from the album and played a couple covers as well.  I almost wanted to go back again tonight and see them again, but wasn’t feeling that well.  In a sad note I took my camera, but the memory card was not in it, so I was limited to the internal memory which allowed me to take six photos on economy quality.  So the photos might not nearly be as nice as previous ones and they are pretty limited.  Hopefully next time they come to town I remember the memory card.

Kasabian hurts my ears

So Mew was the reason I went to the show, but I thought I would check out some of Kasabian.  They weren’t that bad.  They were your typical rock band.  The lead singer had this Mick Jagger meets Liam Gallagher thing going.  Perhaps it was the whole British thing.  But the band was loud, people were into it, but people slowly started to leave.  Their songs started to sound all the same after a while, at least to me.  I had to go outside and take a break after 40 minutes or so.  But while I was in there, I took a lot of pictures.  Especially after people started to leave I could get really close to the stage.  So check out the photos.  Enjoy.

Mew at Neumo’s

I was really excited to see Mew tonight at Neumo’s, and they really didn’t disappoint other then not playing long enough. They had a great stage show with a white tarp behind them for a huge projector which was synced to the music in various spots, like during the chorus of various songs. I wasn’t sure that Mew sound would translate well live, but they really did make it work. The lead singer really can control his voice, which was cool to see live. One sad thing was majority of my photos turned out pretty blurry, which really sucks. I more full stage shots then I normally do, because the light from the projector was messing with my camera. My friend Niles cousin Adam came along and wanted a picture with the lead singer, so that is the last shot.

I am really excited because Mew said they would be back in February probably doing a headline tour. I’d say 20% of the people who went to the show went to see Mew and couldn’t careless about Kasabian.

CSS rocks The Showbox in Seattle

So CSS opened for Ladytron tonight at the Showbox in Seattle. The only reason I went to the show was to see CSS. I have really enjoyed their album, and I expected a good show, since they are signed to Subpop, so it would be a pseudo homecoming. Well they really delivered putting on a high energy and sexual charged show. Lots of dancing and going into the crowd to have fans sing along. Very entertaining. The band has 5 girls and 1 guy. The lead singer, Lovefoxx as she is known, was just a tiny little women full of energy. CSS has some very suggestive and sexual charged songs, and that just got the crowd even more into it. During Art Bitch Ladyfoxx would be acting out the second chorus, and if you know the song it is somewhat graphics. They really rocked out to Alala, which was their new single. The song is so catchy, with a dark side to it. In a strange twist they did Alcohol, even though it was an all ages show asking the crowd to lift their drinks, but it was cool. They had Ben Gibbard of Deathcab for Cutie come on stage to sing on part of the song, mostly just the ‘whooo whooo’ part. They closed with probably their best known song, Lets Make Love & Listen Death From Above, which really got the crowd going. They took a good long time on this one, as they didn’t have an encore. Overall it was a really cool show. I am really glad that I went out to check them out. Pretty good for forgetting about the show until this afternoon. And now the photos. Majority of them turned out really blurry sadly, mostly because Lovefoxx kept moving around like a grasshopper, and people kept bumping into me. But there are 3 or 4 good ones. I’ll let you guys find them and tell me what you think.  Click on the story link to see the photos…
