Capitol Hill Block Party

So Seafair, Seattle’s month long summer party, is starting to pick up steam with the Capitol Hill Block Party this weekend.  The line up is pretty amazing, and well worth checking out for the price.  I am probably only going on Friday with The Helio Sequence, Band Of Horses, and Pretty Girls Make Graves all playing the main stage with Immaculate Machine, The Pharmacy, and Visqueen playing other venues.  I just hope I can get down there in time for Helio Sequence which starts at 5:45.  Photos from the show for sure!!  Saturday is pretty full as well with Schoolyard Heroes, Smoosh, Minus The Bear, Black Angels, and Murder City Devils making their return.  So come out and check out the show and support the local bands!

Ben Kweller returns soon

So my pal Ben Kweller will be releasing his 3rd record on September 19th.  The first song has been released called Penny On The Train Track.  It has a great full sound, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the album.  Ben is also doing a US tour in support of the album and happens to be making two stop in Washington State, one in Bellingham, which is very close to where I grew up, and another in Seattle.  I hope to attend both, but who knows.  So take a listen to the song, and support Ben and company on his tour this fall.

So hot outside

So I am writing this at midnight and it is about 85 degrees outside.  Up here in the northwest aren’t used to this type of weather.  I’m dying here.

Ratatat returns with Classics

140-ratatat_classics.jpgSo Ratatat is coming out with their second full length album in a couple weeks and I got a taste of what is to come, and it is pretty mellow and friendly. Lots of bends and twists, and some pop sounding tracks.  I can hear a bit of Beatles in there, and some nice anthem type riffs and some really great synth work as well.  But Ratatat doesn’t disappoint and has some nice hip-hop fusion stuff from their self titled debut in here as well.  I have to give it a couple more play thoughts to give it a full review, but well worth checking out.

Valve does it again with Portal

440-portal00001.jpg

So those smart guys over at Valve have done it again with their second game to be packaged with Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal. Portal is a simple concept, use portals to solve a puzzle, but did Valve ever put a wicked spin on it. Talk about messing with the players mind, I can only imagine the level design possibilities as well as the frustration. If you haven’t had the chance to check the video out, please do so over at my good pal BlimBlim’s site Xboxyde

Team Fortress 2 returns in style

440-tf2.jpg

So Valve showed off their long delayed Team Fortress 2 this week at a press conference with their distributor Electronic Arts, and I have to say that I am really excited about the game now. With all the versions of Battlefield and all the games trying to be Battlefield and all of the World War 2 shooters, Team Fortress 2 will be a refreshing change to the ‘real’ look that many developers are going for these days. Valve is in a position to take some risks, and I have applaud them for doing something different.
